Dave Mercel Haha, hey man.
It’s not about the aesthetics , it’s about keeping track of books and finding new stuff. You want pretty? Sign up on Twerk Tok.
Dave Mercel 'Where did my hair go?" Obviously it's a small but essential part of a huge conspiracy. Or perhaps it was demons.
Dave Mercel Clare Abshire/DeTamble & Henry DeTamble, The Time Traveler's Wife by Audrey Niffenegger

We all come to relationships from different times, different worlds, from unique perspective. Clare and Henry's first encounters, their anticipation of each other, the love and the bond they share through time and change, their poetry through dark circumstance is so beautiful, and so inspirational. They evolve, one as anchor as the other flies, they roll through time as time demands, it's all we can do.

Dave Mercel There was a lack of rain here; for weeks, months it seemed. I started to get a bit obsessive about it. Then I figured out the why of it (oddly, it wasn't meteorological) and started writing.
Dave Mercel Out of the ether comes the idea, that's a flash of inspiration, which probably came while I was on the subway. From there it's motivation to get it done right, do as much justice possible to that original rush of inspiration and realize the potential of that crazy idea. Then, when in the flow and groove of really cooking on a story, you just want to keep on rolling.
Dave Mercel I have several short stories on the go, and two hammering my skull from the inside to get out. This is a blast, get an idea, work it through to the best possible result, and move on to something else entirely. I am finishing up a Kung fu vampire story and something quieter about a busker and a rain god.
I have a few ideas for longer works, but will write short stories for awhile yet to learn the craft.
Dave Mercel Keep working it, keep dreaming. Just write and write and learn all the little things, and find yourself. It may stink, but I will get better, keep on trucking and have fun with it. I am finding that even after I think it's done, there are always some things that could be better, smoother. Reading my story 'Anubis Please Us' today I picked out a couple things I would change, and I probably will punch them up (ah, the digital age), but at some point it has to be done, move onto the next thing and be smooth there. I am learning every day, and loving it.
Also, read everything that can put a hand or an ear to. You can't go wrong with Neil Gaiman audiobooks.
Dave Mercel First, when that flash happens, that idea that you just have to get down, the potential of it and the fun it will be carving it out, and finishing it right. Second, when the story starts telling itself, and I'm along for the ride. One time a character said something that changed everything, it surprised the hell outta me.
Dave Mercel With a change of scenery. I usually swear quietly to myself, then get up and do the dishes, which may need doing. I try to let it slip to the back of my mind, let it simmer. Sometimes the way comes clear, sometimes it keeps poking me until I have to confront it. Then I just work it, occasionally talking out loud. Or I just jump to another story, there is always something else on the go.
