What an intriguing question. I remember one summer when my husband and I were travelling through the rockies on our way home after a two week road trip. If you have never driven the through the rockies it really is an experience of a lifetime. While driving we passed by a beautiful red roofed lodge just outside of Three Valley Gap. I yelled to my husband to stop. He had no choice but to do as I commanded as I know I sounded like a crazy woman. Once he pulled over, he asked me what was wrong. "This place" I pointed at the lodge. " We need to stay here. It feels like I have been here before."
Needless to say the deja vu or whatever I expereinced was strong enough to convince my husband to stop for the day. Three Valley Gap is a ghost town just down the way from the lodge. Maybe I could write my first mystery??

When I am working on a story, I have a creative tool box that I turn to depending on which part of the process I am in.
Story Development and Mind Mapping= Dancing and Drawing on a 6ft-9ft dry erase board.
Chapter Development= Early Rising before the house and the sun are up.
Researching and Editing= Lattes and sitting outside.
Story Review= Tea, and a big cozy blanket
Oh I also paint sometimes when I am feeling ansy, pansy,

I don't often get writer's block, but when things start to slow, I usually paint. I find it helps to the creative thoughts around in the brain and release some ideas. The other thing I do is dive deeper into my research. When I combine the two, it usually does the trick.

Currently I am working on the third book in my Vinho Verde Trilogy, "Inside the Wind" and starting work with an old friend on a screenplay. A very busy creative time.

I think one of the most important questions that an aspiring writer can ask themselves is why? Why do you want to write that first story? And who do you want to read it? If you can answer those two questions it starts to build the foundation that will help motivate you on the days when you start asking yourself. What am I doing?

If I could travel to any fictional book world right now during the pandemic, it would an adventure the magical land featured in my favorite book I read when I was a teen, The Hero's of Zara Keep by Guy Gregory.

I am working my way through Judy Carter's The Message of You. And off to the bookstore today to find a little something to read as Spring kicks off.
