The smallest things inspire me. Usually it begins with an inane comment, issued over a cigar with friends.
My imagination takes over asking... what if? What if you horrid ex-girlfriend really did love you but she left because she was an international jewel thief? Or, maybe you knew that man in a past life?
A vivid imagination usually means I'm scribbling in my notebook character traits, flaws and outlandish ideas. Stories develop from there.
