Rachel Rust I'm just beginning to outline a new YA project. As of right now it's a romantic suspense, but I don't put much stock into specific genres this early into the process, because my characters in the past have been known to skew stories into totally different directions than I had planned. :)

I am also in the final editing stages of a YA paranormal.

Oh, and there are about four other projects waiting in the wings. Which means my brain never shuts off.

Rachel Rust In short: Write. No one else is going to do it for you. And simply daydreaming about a project does not make it magically come to fruition ... trust me I've tried. ;-)

Also, don't listen to naysayers. Writing is never a waste of time. Even if a project never gets published and never makes a dime, it was important enough to you to write. And that means it's pretty awesome, in and of itself.
Rachel Rust I deal with writer's block in one of two ways.

1.) I write random things. I will open a blank Word document and just type ideas, whether they are good or bad. Sometimes they're not even about the characters or story I'm working on. I just type and brainstorm. This usually breaks me through the brick wall.

2.) If I'm feeling frustrated by the writer's block, I walk away and do absolutely anything else other than write. I clean, I read, I watch TV, I hang out with family. In short, I simply live my life away from my computer. But while doing so, I pay attention to the people and activities around me. I find that people watching and casual conversation with people can jump-start my creativity again.
