Hi Vicky! Just wondering if your book, How to Breathe Underwater (or any of your other books) is appropriate for a mature 11-year-old girl in 6th grade? Is there explicit material that would be inappropriate? She loves romance books and it's hard to find appropriate content for her in YA, especially because she can sometimes go through 2 a day! :) Thanks!
Vicky Skinner Hi Liz! How to Breathe Underwater, I would say, is probably appropriate for a 6th grader as long as she isn't offended by strong language (namely the F word). The same can be said for We Are the Ghosts and All Our Worst Ideas, although All Our Worst Ideas does have a (non-graphic) intimate scene between two teenagers. Hope this helps!

Dear Vicky, I loved your, "How to Breathe Underwater" so much! I'm 60 years=old but the fact that Kate, the protagonist is a swimmer is what drove me to read your book. For 20 years now I cannot go more than a day without swimming laps in the pool. I was wondering if you are still a swimmer, or if you were and then gave it up? Sincerely, Laura Cobrinik
Vicky Skinner Hi Laura! So, I've actually never taken part in competitive swimming. I'm a terrible swimmer! I always tell people I'm the Michael in the story: I can only dog paddle! But I am a HUGE fan of swimming. I watch it every chance I get, and I think it's a beautiful and inspiring sport!
