My most recent book has been bouncing around in my head for a number of years. It is a thought that just popped into my mind, and I wrote the main idea down. I started tweaking and polishing it after that. Ideas can come quickly, but it is still a process to execute that initial idea. It doesn't just happen. It is a process that requires work. Once you start running with the first thought the idea becomes refined.

I find inspiration everywhere. Books that make me think inspire me. Conversations with my kids inspire me. Sometimes the simplest of things inspire me. Of course, music inspires me. Art inspires me. The sky inspires me. I find the sky to be a continually changing masterpiece, and I can't see how that doesn't inspire anyone. The world is filled with inspiration.

I am currently working on a book about our value. I think we are quick to absorb our value from others, and we, as people, are constantly comparing ourselves to others. Many times we don't give as much weight to how God sees us. We might say we do, but our thoughts and actions reveal the truth. I have been tweaking the storyline for over a year (perfectionism struggle going on), and a month ago, I started laying out the designs. I started painting the first picture two weeks ago (June 2017).

The best thing about being a writer is you continually get to tap into your imagination. You can dream. You can always be thinking about the "what if....." You can make it happen. Of course, I believe everyone can do this. You just have to start. I believe everyone has at least one story to share with the world. However, people stop themselves with self doubt.

I think we induce our own writer's block. We put stress upon the process, or we are just burned out. You can't create when you are burned out. You have nothing left to give. You're empty. I wrote a blog post about the creative process, and you can find it here:

My advice is to start working on the book you are thinking about. We, as creative people, can over think things because many of us are striving for perfectionism. I completely understand this aspect. My perfectionism can keep me from starting because I might *gasp* have an error somewhere. If I have an error, someone might say something about it....
Over thinking.
Blah!
Just start.
