Romalyn Tilghman My To Read pile runneth over! I'm in the middle of The Bookstore on the Corner, which I believe to be a comp title for my novel. I'm excited to have landed an ARC of Carnegie's Maid, which also relates. I don't know how I missed Ann Padgett's The Story of a Happy Marriage, which offers such writer-to-writer encouragement as I enter into post-pub marketing. And for my book club, there's Swing Time. On my phone for listening are Euphoria, Isadora, The Tea Girl of Hummingbird Land, and Anything is Possible. -- Excuse me, I need to start reading!
Romalyn Tilghman Several decades ago, I was working with many arts councils across Kansas, several of which were converting their Carnegie libraries into arts centers. I was incredibly impressed with the dedicated volunteers, mostly women, who were brilliantly and passionately raising the money to make these miracles happen. As I tripped across more Carnegie libraries, I came across snippets of historical notes and started imagining the women who enticed Andrew Carnegie to invest in their communities in the early 1900s.
My interest in Carnegie libraries probably dates back to about age 3, since my hometown library in Manhattan, Kansas was a classic Carnegie. My, I loved that place! My candy store!
