Joshua Rem I was living in a homeless shelter with seemingly no way out of the hole I'd dug for myself. It occurred to me that writing about someone overcoming a hopeless situation might inspire me to do the same. It worked.
Joshua Rem I have a story to tell and I won't stop until I've told it. For me, it truly is as simple as that.
Joshua Rem I am currently working on Book Two of The Rufino Factor, tentatively entitled "The Darkest Depths". My protagonist has suffered a setback in his quest to regain a life worth living: he's been enslaved by a sick necromancer who intends to crush the nearby town of Tundora as payback for being sent to prison for a crime he did not commit. This story is meant to dramatize how there will be setbacks during a quest to overcome depression, that those setbacks threaten to suck you back into the world of despair from whence you started, and that you will need to be stronger than you think you can be in order to prevail.

It has been a difficult book to write, but it is nearly finished. Books Two and Three should be available by Q2 of 2017.
Joshua Rem If you want to see your work in print, you will need a thick skin. You'll be rejected by publishers, you'll get bad reviews, and you might even get hate mail if your work is controversial in nature. The adversity does suck, but you have the power to use that negativity as a motivator. If you can turn negatives into positives, you will achieve your goals.
Joshua Rem I am very shy, so for me, the best part about being a writer is the freedom of expression. Through my books, I can say what I've always wanted to say, which is something I've always had difficulty doing in the real world.
Joshua Rem I'll sleep on minor problems. Usually my mind will have worked something out by morning.

In the case of major blocks, I've been known to skip ahead just to keep myself moving. This is how I finished my third book before finishing my second one.
