Sudha Kuruganti At the end of a long night of watching horror movies, when she needed a glass of water, she couldn't help but sprint to the kitchen and back. Just as she reached her bedroom door, laughing at herself for succumbing to her childish fears, it was swung shut - by someone who looked exactly like her.
Sudha Kuruganti Dark Things Between The Shadow and The Soul started as a series of posts on my blog, mostly because I was so annoyed by the way Indian mythology was treated on Supernatural, a show I enjoy watching. I decided to write what I wanted to read—modern retellings of the myths and legends I grew up with and loved.

I started by posting a story every Friday, using a set of fantasy based writing prompts. My first story, Myth, was on vampires, which I wrote when the Twilight saga was very popular. The idea of a demon hunter like Constantine or a slayer like Buffy coming across a vampire who wasn’t affected by crosses or holy water always made me laugh. So that was what I wrote.

The one-off story got a good response, so I continued with my year-long ‘Indian mythology flash fiction project’, as I called it. When I was done, I decided to publish the best of them in an anthology. And the rest is history!
