Dave Swanson Funny you mention that Frederick. Martha Raddatz wrote a book called The Long Road Home which is now a miniseries on National Geographic. Also, I was a character in Bill Murphy's book In a Time of War.

Personally, I was in over 100 firefights as an Infantry Platoon Leader and there were so many lessons learned from that and it should be part of my next book. :)
Dave Swanson It's a memoir with life lessons sprinkled in throughout the story. I have given the speech on the book many times and I have always had a great reaction and that finally pushed me to publish the story.
Dave Swanson I think about the audience. I think about what they are thinking when they are reading the words and what that will invoke. Everything I write, books/blogs/speeches, I always keep that in mind.
Dave Swanson Currently, I am still working on my Ph.D. and that takes some time. However, class will be off for a few weeks and during that time, I am going to put together my next outline/proposal to the follow up to The Dot on the Left.
Dave Swanson It took me 12 years to publish my book. Not 12 years to find a publisher, but to believe in myself and agree that anybody would want to read it. You have the ability to write, put yourself out there and be ok with whatever the result is, you will become a better writer because of it.
Dave Swanson Hearing someone say that I inspired them from my writing. Nothing is better than when someone says or texts a quote back to me from my book. It lets me know that I'm changing the world, one person at a time.
Dave Swanson I get up in early in the morning anyway, but I make sure that when I do sit down, there are no distractions (phone, email, etc.) and I just get my fingers going. I always have my outline and general ideas handy for guidance, but that usually gets me out of it.
