What have you been reading lately?
Joe Scholes Hi Jaume,

Thanks for the question! I've actually been too busy writing the sequel to Malefactor and researching various things that are part of the story to do any leisure reading. I expect to start proofreading Connie Suttle's next book in two or three weeks. -Joe

How do you deal with writer’s block?
Joe Scholes Sleep. It seems that whenever I hit a roadblock, if I mull it over and sleep on it, generally my subconscious mind works out the kinks while I'm asleep.

What’s the best thing about being a writer?
Joe Scholes This being the first book, the best thing so far is the sense of accomplishment. I finally finished it, and sales are encouraging.

What’s your advice for aspiring writers?
Joe Scholes I'm too new at this to give qualified advice. I will say that I followed Connie's advice (finally), which was to "just sit down and write the book you would like to read."

What are you currently working on?
Joe Scholes Book Two in the Ren Gifford Mysteries series.

How do you get inspired to write?
Joe Scholes Finishing the first book was inspired by my friend and fellow author, Connie Suttle. Seeing her process and success inspired me to finish the manuscript, which had been languishing for years.

Where did you get the idea for your most recent book?
Joe Scholes The idea came to me about twenty years ago after working with a friend who was a private investigator.
