Kay Doherty I'm always filled with the desire to write so inspiration to begin is never a problem. I need inspiration to finish and that usually comes from friends or family who are eager to read a specific story. Occasionally, I have the inner drive to finish a piece simply because I love the characters and I refuse to leave them until their story is told. I write for my family, for my close friends, and for myself. My public readers simply get to enjoy the fruit born of the constant hounding I receive close to home.
Kay Doherty I switch up the medium. If I'm writing on the laptop and hit writer's block, I'll switch to pen and paper to get things flowing again. Sometimes I'll completely change the project I'm working on and put the one that's blocked to the side for a bit. Changing what I'm thinking about or how I'm thinking about it, will loosen up the ideas. I always have more than one project going so I'm never completely blocked. There's usually at least one I can write on. If not, if I'm just tired and need a break, I read.
Kay Doherty Blind Date was inspired by a writing prompt - If your characters took part in a game show, which would it be? I created a spin-off/fundraiser version of Love Connection. I'm dating myself with that, I think. The story and characters just took off and Blind Date was born. Before I knew it, the novel was finished and my guys found their happily ever after.
