Traverse Davies Getting to tell stories. I love storytelling, and I would do it if I didn't get paid for it (okay, mostly at this point I don't get paid, but I get paid a little bit).
Traverse Davies Well, I'm an aspiring writer at this point in my career. I guess my advice is sit down and write.
Traverse Davies Inspiration is the least of my problems. I sit down at my computer and turn on some trance music, then I write. I have a log of a dozen or so books that I want to write and I'm in the middle of one (it doesn't matter when you read this, I will be in the middle of one because I always am).
Traverse Davies Right now I'm reading the A New World series by John O'Brien. I have actually read the first six and am half way through book seven.

Now, and this is important, they are terrible. Everything John O'Brien does as a writer is "wrong". Having said that, I can't seem to stop reading them. The action is strange but compelling. The main character is consistently awful and yet I want him to succeed. He's awful, not in the noir way, where we are given a flawed character that we want to succeed despite his awfulness, no, Jack is presented as being the moral centre of the tale, while being a bully and a jerk. At the same time, he's almost likable in that his motivations are so positive. Anyway, that's what I'm reading now. Don't know what else I will read over the summer since the series only runs to 10 books and each one only takes a day or two.
Traverse Davies Honestly? I wanted to finish a book, so I picked the story in my head I felt was easiest to finish. I have thousands of stories in my brain, a standard first night/survival scenario in a zombie world is pretty easy for me. I felt like I had some advantages in that I have a background in Martial Arts, Survival, and Parkour, all of which I included in the book.
Traverse Davies I have several works in the queue. Right now I'm working on a fantasy story about some potential implications of magic in a high fantasy world. I also have a lot of material for the sequel to A Long Walk.
Traverse Davies I've yet to face writers block. My problem is a surplus of ideas and a lack of time.
