I try not to force the words on the page. I usually will get up and do something fun. If I'm in a homebody mood, I will read some of my favorite books to get inspired.

I love dreaming up characters and situations. It's my way to relax, and when I'm really hitting my stride, I get a little happy buzz. Simply put, it makes me happy!
As a bonus: I love the camaraderie of the writing community. I've had great opportunities to met fellow writers at conferences and retreats. I have the best time meeting with my critique partners on a weekly basis.

Do not quit and do not compare yourself to others. You are uniquely made and your experiences and perspective and words will be different. Embrace it. Also, have a thirst for learning. Whether you're a craft book person or prefer to take courses, it is so important to learn and stretch yourself.

The spark of the idea happen when I saw a music video about a small town girl roaming the streets of NYC with a cute guy she'd just met. A few weeks later, I was in New Orleans at a reader and writer conference I told my cousin I wanted to write a contemporary romance. I told her about my idea and she said "Fantastic. Sounds like a book I would love to read so...write the book." So I wrote the book.
