Alexander Lydiate I was working, as part of a very large team, on the artificial intelligence for a robotic vacuum cleaner. This is painstaking work, and the software had been in development for many, many years. In a moment of abject frustration with the inefficiencies of it all, I realised that once the AI is good enough to write the AI things will be...different.

That lead me Joe Newman and the Voice, and the story of Singularity.
Alexander Lydiate Surprises.

Those moments, rare as they are, where the seems a subtle disconnect from consciousness and the words that are arriving on the page. Where a character makes a decision with apparent independence, or vista unfolds without warning.

The remaining 99% of writing is really hard work...
Alexander Lydiate I write anyway.

I try to write a given number of words every day. If they happen in retrospect to be bad words, or good words in a bad order, I'll happily throw them away.

In short, I don't believe in writer's block.
