Connie Spanhake The clock struck midnight as everyone yelled, "Happy New Year!" It was the beginning of the year 2020.
Connie Spanhake Writer's block is a difficult thing to get past. What helps me the most is when I get away and go for a walk. I live in the country so it's very peaceful and quiet and I can think. If I don't make myself crazy and just relax then ideas will sometimes pop into my head.
Sometimes, I just sit down at my computer and start typing random things until an idea starts to form. I keep telling myself that all I have to do is write one sentence. That sentence grows into another one and so on. I also tell myself that it's not a final draft so just write and don't worry about everything else. You can change it all later.
Connie Spanhake The best thing about being a writer is that I am doing what I love. I love writing, I love book signings and talking to other people, and I love the freedom of following my passion.
Connie Spanhake My advice for aspiring writers is to just jump in with both feet. Don't doubt, don't hesitate, just do it. There are so many ways to get published with our current technology that you don't have to take no for an answer. If you are passionate and have a story within you then you owe it to yourself and others to share it.
Connie Spanhake I am currently in the editing process on my newest book, Dark Secrets. It's a slow process but definitely worth the time. I love it when everything comes together as a finished product.
Connie Spanhake My love for writing began when my children were little. I didn't have the courage to try and publish until my children had grandchildren. I am a teacher so my ideas for my picture books come from experiences that all kids can relate to such as bullying or changing to fit in, learning how to persevere, and also just accepting differences.
I am an avid reader and one day I came across a post on social media stating, "Write the kind of book you'd love to read." That statement resonated with me and I've been working on novels ever since.
Connie Spanhake The idea slowly entered my mind and over a few weeks, a storyline started to emerge. The idea of a strong female character was something I really wanted to portray. My newest book, Dark Secrets, hasn't come out yet but once I developed the main character, Darcy, everything else fell into place.
