The idea for Cruel Reality was born almost twenty years ago, when I was about 12 or 13, in school. We had a simple English assignment to write a short story. I started writing. The result was neither short, nor a story (since it had a beginning and a middle, but not really an end). I have no idea what happened to that manuscript, but the idea continued to evolve in my head over the next ten years. In 2006, having finished university, I began to write again, this time with an ending to aim for.

Play 'Hide-and-Seek'. My kids really need to work on their seeking, but it means I get plenty of time to sit (or crouch uncomfortably) very quietly and think.
