Duterte is a thug. His "war on drugs" is crime against law and a civilized society. America's long and sad history as an imperial power over the Philippines requires we condemn him. But we won't. To quote our President...sad.

(view spoiler)[If not Wisconsin, then Inland County, California, the fictional county where my Lizzie Scott books are set. I'd spar with Lizzie and take Hoot out for a sandwich. (hide spoiler)]

Reading books is how we learn to live with ourselves and other people. It is the means by which we develop an inner life and recognize our soul and the soul's of every human being who has ever lived. How else would we meet and truly get to know the Schlegel sisters, Huck Finn, or Lord Jim? My life would have been incomplete had I never know Sydney Carlton or Kohelth. I cannot imagine life without a sense of humor or the ability to read books.
Jonathan Shapiro
Always. I think every writer does. It isn't always or usually clear to the reader or the writer what part of real life the story is based on. But I don't think humans can create anything that doesn't arise from real experiences, either of the writer or of others.

The character Lizzie Scott in my novel Deadly Force was inspired by a number of great women I worked with at the U.S. Attorney's Office in the District of Columbia and Central District of California...tough as nails, brilliant, competitive and committed prosecutors who I admired and loved.

It's about Lizzie Scott, a former college athlete and current amateur boxer, who works as a federal prosecutor in the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Central District of California (my old office). She grew up and still lives in the Inland Empire. In Deadly Force, the first in a trilogy of books, Lizzie has to prosecute a police officer accused of illegally using deadly force against a suspect during a traffic stop.

Sounds good. Best of luck with it. I like anybody who writes or reads books.

Moby Dick? Narcissistic father (Captain Ahab had a kid), definitely a stalker, and if you replace whaling for cyber...maybe not. I got nothing. Good idea for a book, though. You may have to write it, Marcus.
