Among bibliophiles, this is probably one of the most common answers to this question, but my favorite fictional couple is Elizabeth Bennet and Fitzwilliam Darcy from Pride and Prejudice. I like them because theirs is a relationship in which each partner makes the other better.

Many fantasy fans had their love of the genre born from books, but mine was born from role-playing video games. I adore the Phantasy Star series. Wild ARMs is one of my favorite stories from any medium. Final Fantasy VII! Skies of Arcadia! Zelda! Yesterday's Demons, and the entire Verdant Revival trilogy, is my love-letter to the kinds of characters and storytelling found in these games.

Music is my most generous Muse. Finding the right theme song for a character helps me to learn things about him/her I hadn't previously realized. And almost every key scene in my books has a "soundtrack song" that helps me visualize it.
But after I understand the characters and the key plot points, and it is time to actually write them down, I need time alone to think. This usually means that if I'm alone in the car or running or walking, I'm imagining in detail the next scene I plan to write.
