Rabi Gunaratnam Having travelled widely, I like to be in the real world which is exciting, fulfilling, beautiful and full of challenges. What we have are better than any maybes, except of course a place where there will be perfect love and peace; this too is a real world called heaven.
Rabi Gunaratnam It is getting towards winter in the lower Southern hemisphere. So I have a list of books handed to me by close associates for review that I will need to read and respond. These books are a mix of business and non-fiction Christian books. Once I complete this by July or so I will get on to other books.
Rabi Gunaratnam Good question. Although I do not write fiction, this is something to think about as it can make even non-fiction books more interesting. The plot surrounding 'Purim' in my book by the same title-a true story-becomes really absorbing as we dig deeper into the reasons for the animosity, the characters involved and their motives, finding a way out of tough situations, and the lessons to be learned from all this.
When I think of what happened in Mordecai's life, I am sorry to say that nothing so far in my life could form the base for an exciting plot for a book.
Rabi Gunaratnam Lionel and Jean from 'As Time Goes By' are one my favourites. They each have their idiosyncrasies but make a great couple who are tolerant and understanding towards each other (they are former lovers who went separate ways and came together after 40 years). They support each other and their families. Lionel is a reluctant step father who cares for his step daughter and shows a degree of responsibility for her. They show the importance of family and family relationships. The show is very funny too, I must add.
Rabi Gunaratnam My first book is the result of engaging with people with very different and unsubstantiated views. I started investigating their views and mine more deeply. When I found that there was overwhelming evidence to support my views, I started by first sharing my thoughts with Bible study groups. This resulted in more stimulating discussions. I started writing with much prayer and a deep awareness that God was willing to lead me through His Holy Spirit. As I continued to write I was immensely helped by the Holy Spirit. I give Him all the credit.
Rabi Gunaratnam I always think of the finished product and how it will impact the readers. I write only when I have a message and believe it is going to change lives.
Rabi Gunaratnam I am starting on another book. This needs a bit of research and much thought and I am in the process of doing these things.
Rabi Gunaratnam Give it a go. Don't be put off by the enormity of the task. Every book gets written one word at a time. Get help, get a mentor and keep writing.
Rabi Gunaratnam Over the years I have written several articles which were published in various magazines and on-line sites. I also have two e-Newsletter. The best thing about being a writer is that I can influence, inspire, encourage and educate people through my writing.
Rabi Gunaratnam I have a set time every day to start writing and if the topic I have chosen for the day is not appealing to me, I start on something that is fresh on my mind. Or if I have to do some research, I do this first. As I work through this, I usually get into the flow.
