I used to work in a boys' prison in Florida, and I've used that setting for THE BOYS OF ALPHA BLOCK. Most of the story is true, except the names, of course, are changed, and while the boys did want to get out of there...I really did not have to go through a prison escape with them....I was there to teach, but they taught me plenty....

I get to go inside my head where no one else lives except me, and then I pull out some of the strangest and most entertaining things I've seen, people I've met (lots of extraordinary people), wonderful places -- Vietnam last month, Mexico, Argentina, Spain. Yes, I've got a whole bag of goodies.
