Matthew O'Connell I just make myself work on my novel for a couple of hours every day. That might be actually writing text but it might be doing research, working on scene sketches, etc. If find that as long as I'm working on something then I really don't experience a "block" per se.
Matthew O'Connell Being able to immerse yourself in a world that you've created, without boundaries or limitations. What could be better than that?
Matthew O'Connell I'm working on two novels right now. My second novel, Spirit of the Fox, takes place primarily in Japan and involves possible fox possession, which has been part of Japanese folklore since about the 5th century. I'm about 40% through with it and hope to have it finalized next year, and hopefully published in 2017.

I'm also mapping out a ghost story. I've always enjoyed a good story that raises the hairs on the back of your neck. I have the general concept but need to start roughing out the scenes and cleaning up the story.
Matthew O'Connell Try and learn and refine the craft of writing as much as possible. I found that writing a novel was more difficult than getting my dissertation. I don't mean that scare away aspiring writers but to challenge them. It's a lot of work to write a quality novel.
