Actually, one of my uncles has been missing for years. We don't know if he's dead or alive. Without going into detail, there was a lot of drama around his life and his actions, not all of it legal. It's entirely possible he's been on the run from something or met a terrible end. Very sad, but also...the plot of a book/movie/TV miniseries. Seriously.

I'm diving into the Raven Cycle series by Maggie Stiefvater.

I'm so glad you like the series! Wait, which one? I'm one of those mean authors who works on two series at a time. I'm currently writing the second book in the Whitewood Journals, and it should be ready for publication sometime in the summer...if things go according to plan. The next book in the Earthborn Series will be later this year, probably around December. Book three should wrap things up, although I'm noodling around with a novella focusing on one of the side characters.

Is it naughty of me to say I saw a model's photo and got inspired? Or should I lie and say it was some esoteric article in a science journal? Yeah, let's say it was a science journal.

It's little things that set my brain spinning. "What if?" A song. Something that happens in my day. A conversation. I've heard people say an author's brain is like an internet browser with a million tabs open. Yep, pretty much.

Keep writing. Make friends with other writers. Put yourself out there even though it's scary. We're all aspiring in some way. To be better. More creative. Go further. If you aren't aspiring to be or do something beyond what you already are, there's something amiss.

Writing is great therapy. It's also the only place where you are allowed and encouraged to make up stories and lie for a living.

I just keep writing, even if what is on the computer screen makes me cringe. Eventually, I'll get to the good stuff. The worst thing I could do would be to walk away and not write.
