Ames Sheldon The initial inspiration came from an operetta my late uncle wrote about his experience of being at boarding school during WWII. His songs about the trails and longing of an awkward, bright, musical, naive boy touched me deeply. Then after September 11, I realized I needed to focus on telling a tale about war.
