If it's your dream then go for it. Don't let anyone tell you that you can't do it. Practice makes perfect. I read about too many authors that will tell other aspiring authors that they aren't good enough, etc. How dare them! It is a craft that we all learn. We are started with a blank page. I will never and I repeat never tell another author that they aren't good enough to be published. Make it the best you can.

Knowing that something that came from my crazy imagination entertained someone enough to make them laugh and ask if I have other books I have written that they can read.

I can't say that I've experienced it yet. When I sit down to write, I just write. Doesn't matter if it's good or bad. I revised my first novel many times. The best thing to do is just get it on paper. You can always mold it into something better.
