Ruchika Tulshyan Malhotra I am doing some personal writing. I experienced some deep loss last year and it's taken me over a year to want to write about it. It may never be released, but I hope it helps me deal with some raw emotions.

I see this most with writers of color. When you grow up reading books with characters who are nothing like you, it's easy to believe your stories don't matter. They do!

With this book, I made a deal with myself I wouldn't force myself to write when I wasn't inspired. Towards the end, when it got tiring, I would incentivize completion of chapters. Something like I could splurge on a haircut and color once I completed Chapter 6...
Ruchika Tulshyan Malhotra I was tired of hearing the message that women needed to "lean in" to succeed. I, like many of my female peers, have often raised my hand and exhibited confidence, only to be penalized for being too aggressive.

I knew we had to change our discourse about how to advance women in the workplace. The current conversation centers too much around what WOMEN need to change, but nothing about the institutional barriers to their advancement.
