I'm working on a contemporary romance about a childhood crush rekindled, and a second book in a historical series.

I was running one afternoon on a beautiful day. The playlist I had on was packed with a lot of rock and angst. A story began to unfold in my mind. I went home and jotted down notes. From there, (over years!) the idea grew, and as it did, I jotted down more notes. But I didn't actually start writing the book at the time I imagined it. That was over six years ago. I think they call these books a "book of your heart."

I learned a long while ago that when I hit a road block in my writing, it's because I've made a previous wrong turn. Much as I hate it, when this happens, (as in I can't imagine the next scene, or can but can't write it) I work backwards (in my head and/or literally in my work-in-progress) until I find the scene that needs to be re-imagined, and go from there.
I also tend to have two WIPs going at a time, to give my brain time to germinate on what's next without losing writing time.

Total immersion. Total ability to be in the moment. Writing, editing what I've written, brainstorming about characters and plots and words gives me satisfaction unlike anything else I've ever known. When I'm writing, I feel like the purist form of me. Writing is what I was meant for.
