Mandi Mae The most recent book that I just came out with was Thirteenth Child. It was an idea I had based on the poem called Mr. Nobody. I had read it as a kid and it kind of freaked me out because I pictured an actual invisible person. lol. I started writing the story as a screenplay when i was a teenager but it sat for 15 years growing dust, then I was watching A Christmas Horror story and I remembered about the story i was writing. I wrote the whole thing in like two weeks, I just couldn't stop.
Mandi Mae I am inspired by so much. It could be a movie, a book, overhearing a conversation or something from my past. Even a single word can inspire me. I'm always in my head daydreaming and anything that can make me think or wonder about a scenario inspires me to ask questions which then builds the story.
Mandi Mae Oh wow! I have so much that I'm working on. I work on many novella's at the same time. I have a bunch of YA Fantasy novella's that I'm writing, but my newest project is to take all of my older books and save up enough money to get all new covers that are professionally done. That will take a while but I hope that it's worth it.
Mandi Mae I always looked up to novelists as if they were the most amazing people. I used to write screenplays. The thought of writing a novel was so daunting, but you just have to put pen to paper and write. it's the only way that you will get it done. The story is not going to write itself. Everybody wants to have the results without putting in the work but it doesn't work that way. Start writing today.
Mandi Mae I love telling stories. When I was little I would make up stories to tell my sister about a magic toy store in the attic or leprechauns that lived in our backyard. I wasn't lying because i really believed it. lol. I get so caught up in my stories that I forget that I'm making it up. I think I use it to not deal with realty and drift off to a place where I can control things.
Mandi Mae I always consider myself a storyteller, not necessary a writer, so when I have writer's block it's because I don't know what will happen next. A lot of times I write the storyline as I go. So, I just ask myself questions about the story like what was your original idea? Or what would that character do next. Sometimes I'm stuck on a story for years before I can figure it out. That's why i write many books at the same time.
Mandi Mae I would want to visit Nicolani from my novel The Sleeping Magician. I'm not being conceited but I would love to walk the streets of the place I made and see the people. That would be amazing.
Mandi Mae It's not really a mystery but I battle with mental illness and I had a very rough childhood. My mental illness is unique and a lot of people said that I should write about it. I've tried to but it brings up a lot of past emotions that I'm not ready to deal with. Maybe some day.
