Matthew Laurence Hello! I have good news, bad news, and secret news. The good news is that Book 3 is actually written, edited, and complete! The bad news is that Imprint, the publisher within Macmillan that purchased the rights to Freya, closed during the pandemic and because book publishing red tape is crazy, Book 3 has been in limbo ever since.

As for the secret news, well, message me directly to find out... ;)

Matthew Laurence Hey there! I'd absolutely be open to it. No arrangements are necessary (though a friendly Tweet or two would certainly be appreciated), as the use of small parts and/or short quotations from copyrighted works for educational/scholastic purposes is considered "fair use" by the US Copyright Office.

Thank you very much for asking, however!
Matthew Laurence Hey there! There are three total planned at this time, because trilogies are fun, with room for more if inspiration strikes.
Matthew Laurence Hello Stephanie! Thank you for the question - while I don't have any current plans for a tour, it's certainly a possibility after Slay, the sequel to Freya, comes out in the spring next year! I have to say I'd absolutely love to attend the National Book Festival. My mother is a librarian, and I have very fond memories of attending an ALA conference with her in DC. Any event or organization that supports literacy and public libraries is automatically a winner in my book. When it comes to travel (especially for me, since I'm not currently living in the US), time and money certainly play a role - but if the stars align and I can attend, you bet I will.
Matthew Laurence Usually from other stories, mostly written, but also in film, TV, and video games. Sometimes it's a desire to pursue a twist on something I've encountered, others it's in the hopes of being just as good some day.
Matthew Laurence Besides Freya? I have two other potential novels in varying stages of completion I've been tinkering with in my free time...
Matthew Laurence The same advice that's always given when this question is asked, I'm afraid: Write. I remember reading once that you have a million bad words in you when you start, and the only way to get to the good stuff is to get them out and on paper. So write. Write a million words of whatever you fancy, and at the end of that journey, see where you stand.
Matthew Laurence Distract myself with just about anything, including other stories. Often, just stepping away and letting things tumble in the back of your head leads to new solutions.
Matthew Laurence Knowing there's a chance something you created might entertain another person. I'm endlessly awed and grateful to be able to put my stories and characters in the hands of others.

It's in your eyes that those things - those ideas - become real, and to me, that's about as close as you can get to modern magic.
