I am usually inspired by true stories I have read in a book or heard while listening to the Great Courses. I become curious, so I start researching. Disparate facts begin to fit together like a giant puzzle. Stories give hope and meaning to our lives.

The Mayhews who settled on Martha's Vineyard in the early 17th century are my ancestors. Thomas Mayhew, Jr. was lost at sea on a voyage to London. But his father never gave up hope that he was alive and had been captured by pirates. This made me think: what if?!
