Janis Harper I open my inner senses wide and listen quietly, attentively. If I'm lucky, something might arrive that wants to be pursued. Something sparks a passion that needs to be expressed. Or I might get obsessed by a particular idea... or an unfinished conversation... Or reading another writer's work will inspire me. Or I engage with another arts modality--dancing, singing, drawing--or I just go for a walk and clear my head. Inspiration is a magical, mysterious thing; it can't be harnessed. But it can be invited.
Janis Harper "Jonas and the Mountain" (forthcoming in October 2021 by Sacred Stories) was a way to get the protagonists to figure out a long-standing central question I had regarding enlightenment / nonduality and metaphysics / creating reality. Can these two approaches to "truth" meet? The novel poured out after a retreat in India with an enlightened guru and some life-changing experiences.
