From growing up along the Columbia River, loving our small local library, but feeling sorry for residents along the river who had no libraries. As a kid, I told my librarian I wanted get a houseboat, convert it into a library, and float up and down the river taking books to people there. The story grew from there, especially after I learned that in WWII a Japanese I-25 submarine really did enter the Columbia River!
