Penelope Przekop I would have a picnic in The Secret Garden. After eating a spread of cheese, grapes, and crackers with a mojito (or two), I would spend the afternoon relaxing on my blanket. I’d look for shapes in the clouds and take in my surrounding. I’d read a great book for a while and work on my poetry. It would be magical (until I had to use the restroom).
Penelope Przekop I’ve never had writer’s block. I have a tough time understanding the concept. Writers write, right?
Penelope Przekop This is a tough question for me. My knee jerk response is to say that being a writer is to me as a vent hole is to a teakettle, but that’s not quite right. I often feel that some element of my subconscious is magically blasting through my consciousness. Writing gives that silent part of me a voice.
Penelope Przekop My high-level advice to be patient, learn to view feedback as a gift, and find a way to follow your heart while maintaining a balanced life.
Penelope Przekop Inspired to write is my normal setting. I kept a journal for 15 years before making the commitment to write my first novel at 25. As a kid, I wanted and needed to write, and still do. I’m challenged to uninspire myself so that I can be a responsible person. I’ve had to learn to manage my time. When our kids were growing up, I wrote during my lunch breaks and late at night. There are times when I’m overwhelmed with inspiration, and I write as much as I can down on a napkin, envelope, or old magazine, whatever’s available. It’s a spectacular yet desperate feeling, and I love it.
