C. McNair Wilson Fame & fortune ...HAH! The preocess of crafting a well turned phrase, an insiring praragrph, a chapter the engages the reader ... using the best parts of me to encourage that in others. I have a long background in theatre (actor, director, playwright, designer, and educator.) It is a world where almost anyone can find and opportunity for their creative expression. Theatre is for storytellers. I write in a "conversational voice" and so I approach craftoing my books with a sense of strorytelling and performance ... and all my books contasin my own illustrations. I don't see that changing any time soon.
C. McNair Wilson Mostly, I just start writing, doddling, scribbling. That will jump start my brain 89.63337% of the time. Don't start your day scrolling through email! Start by creating something. Place something in the world that wasn't there before you started your day. If I waited for the right words to come to mind I would likely still be working on my 2nd book. I am currently writing my SIXTH book. (and have a good bit already written on 3 or 4 other books. WRITE! Also, I find that reading a few pages, a chapter, from an inspiring book ALWAYS gets my mind working on my own words & thoughts. (Try: Madeleine L'Engle's "Walking On Water"; "Juicy Pens, Thirsty Paper" by SARK; "Wild Mind" by Natalie Goldberg. There are many more that inspire me. Check the book list posted on my blog: www.TeaWithMcNair.com. <----
C. McNair Wilson At virtually every speaking engagement, usually as I'm signing books, I hear (f-f-f-frequently) "I wanna write a book, too!" Then I say, "Great. What have you written so far: magazine articles, pieces for you company newsletter, a blog ... are you keeping a journal ..." And most say, well, no. I wanna write a book." My response, "If you are writing nothing now, you'll probably NEVER write a book." WRITE, right now. You can start a blog and not tell an yone it exists just as a writing exercise. ALSO: carry a journal/sketchbook everywhere. as it says in the fron of all my 150+ sketchbooks: "Anything worth remembering is worth writing down."
C. McNair Wilson NEW BOOK: "Book No.2 (NOT the title)" in my series on creativity. [Book No.1, "HATCH!..." is on brainstorming.] New book addresses "recapturing your creative spirit" based on my "TED Talk" of that title. I especially address the vast majority of people who misunderstand creativity as a special gift or talent—like being a jelly donut. (Donuts don't need help from ruined fruit.) Everyone has a factory-install creative spirit. The new book will inspire and demonstrate how to relaunch YOUR CREATVITY in all areas of life. Presale to commence in early Autumn 2017. Watch my social media (Facebook, Twitter, etc.) and blog site for the pre-publication sale announcement (big discounts.) Blog URL: www.TeaWithMcNair.com.
C. McNair Wilson "HATCH!: Brainstorming Secrets of A Theme Park Designer" is based on the work I did as a Disney Imagineer (theme park designer) and that I now teach to corporate groups from Denver to Abu Dhabi. It is the first book in my series on human creativity (vs. squirrel creativity.) "Book No.2 (NOT the title)" is in the works—NOW—planning a late 2017 release. It will address recapturing your original, "factory-installed" creative spirit. Target audience the "I Don't have a creative bone in my body" folks. (Hint: No one does. Creativity is in your SPIRIT not your skeletal structure.)
