(view spoiler)[I've rummaged through modern literary fiction, much of which I've loved, and I've gone back to a novel written in 1920 by O.Douglas (Anna Buchan, John Buchan's sister). At the close of this book, after the marriage of the unlikely couple, they surprisingly found themselves talking about death. He asks her "Tell me, Jean, girl, how will this day look from your death-bed?" Jean put both her hands into his. "Ah, my dear love, if that day leaves me any remembrance of what I feel today, I'll be so glad to have lived that I'll go out of the world cheering." (hide spoiler)]

I was asked to write a history of the Peacehaven Trust, where my brother Gordon lives, but I wrote Gordon's story instead. It's 'un-put-downable', according to feedback. Full of tears and laughter.

Thoughts boiling through my head. My book - Gordon, Business as Usual - is my first. It was suggested that I write the story of the sheltered home where Gordon lives, but it turned into Gordon's story. I didn't know I would love doing it so much.

Promoting my new book. It's not much fun! Pretty tiring, but has to be done.

Oh, just do it! Write it fast, then go over it, again and again. You'll change almost everything, but the first draft is something to build on. Some bits you'll get right first time - that's a great feeling.

Using words, with imagination and precision. I have synaesthesia, so the words and letters are coloured! It's a hidden, extra pleasure.

My book is non-fiction, so I had material ready. It was more a question of managing the material, and using the best, perfect words. I loved that.
