Ona Russell From reading the Upton Sinclair book, "Oil!"
Ona Russell Reading history. Looking for the missing pieces. What might have happened?
Ona Russell A book set in the 1940s. It's a departure from my historical mystery series in many ways. First, it's in the 40s, not the 20s. Second, it's told in first person. Third, it's not a mystery, per se. Fourth, the narrator is male and is a character from Rule of Capture.
Ona Russell First of all read! Also, take a small, everyday item--a shoe, a comb, a piece of gum, etc.--and jot down everything you can think of associated with it. Then tell a little, very little, story about it. Expand from there.
Ona Russell Cry! Then hug my dog, exercise, watch an old movie and cook. If all that fails, I cry some more. At some point, the ideas start flowing again.
Ona Russell Entering and creating a different world, in my case, one that is situated in the past. I love bringing unsung people and events back to life.
