The best thing about being a writer is the privilege of taking readers on an imaginative voyage. I love that I get to create characters and worlds that are completely new.

I'm currently working on a modern day sequel to the Wizard of Oz but it will come out under my full name, Allen Wolf.

Write all the time. Whenever you get a chance, write. Also, don't make excuses about not having time to write. If you need to get up hours early, just do it. Make it happen. It takes a long time to write a book but you can do it a step at a time. Stay committed. It will pay off.

I don't necessarily get inspired to write. It's just something I enjoy doing. However, I love going to museums, movies, and plays to help inspire my imagination. Playing with my kids and reading books also fuels my creativity. The other day, I was entertaining the kids by pretending the stairs that go up actually go down. I stubbed my toe, they laughed, and it was completely worth it. It's those interactions that inspire me with new tales to tell.

I have done most of my writing at Disneyland so whenever I feel like I'm getting stuck, I'll take a break and ride one of the rides. That usually shakes up my creative juices and gets me going again. I also think it's important to regularly visit museums and go on creative adventures to keep my brain energized.

A friend and I were laughing about the challenges of navigating the world of dating. Even though I was married, those days were still vivid in my mind. Those conversations inspired me to write Hooked about two people who are both dating-challenged, from completely different walks of life and the opposite from each other in major ways. The woman is paid to be with men and has a skewed view of love. The man is autistic and struggles with forming relationships as well as physical touch. He has his own idealistic view of relationships. I thought bringing those two together would make an interesting and dynamic story and could teach all of us something about love.
Hooked started off as a screenplay which won numerous awards at film festivals. The process of making a film can be long and so I wanted to bring the story to life sooner than that. I relished the chance to articulate the voices of the characters and paint the story of Hooked in a cinematic way through words.
