Nancy Atkinson The best thing about being a writer is being able to share your passions and thoughts with others, but be able to do it in a thoughtful, measured way. I'm not good on my feet answering questions or even presenting my feelings immediately, on the spot. Writing allows me to consider my words and to express my true feelings.
Nancy Atkinson From the first page, I loved the book "The Time Traveler's Wife" by Audrey Niffenegger, and was struck by the unusual but touching love story of Henry and Claire De Tamble. Henry suffers from a rare genetic disorder that causes him to shift uncontrollably and sometimes violently back and forth through time. Their fierce love and passion for each other endures through the unusual circumstances of Henry's condition (which Niffenegger presents so convincingly as a 'real' disorder!) Henry and Claire knew their time together was sometimes fleeting and limited and so they cherished every moment they were together. As should we all!
Nancy Atkinson Sometimes my best cure for writer's block is to get out of my chair and go for a walk or go do something completely different and clear my mind. And usually I'm rewarded with a flash of insight or a new approach to the topic.
Nancy Atkinson I'm always writing for Universe Today, just trying to keep track of the Universe!
Nancy Atkinson I was approached by Page Street Publishing, as they had an idea for a book about NASA's robotic missions and wondered if I'd be interested in writing it. Of course! But I've always loved telling the stories of the people behind the missions and that helped form the 'approach' I took in writing about our robotic emissaries to the cosmos. As much as the spacecraft are the stars of the show, it really is all about the humans!
