J.R. White That you don't always know what's going to happen in a given story, even as you're writing it.
One of my favorite things is taking a character, once they're fully fleshed out, and writing them into a situation just to see what they'll do. If you're consistent about who the character is, they just might surprise you and take the plot in a whole new direction.
J.R. White Start now, whether you feel ready or not, and read good writing as much as you can.
J.R. White I'll usually get up and walk away from the page for a bit. Physical activity has always worked well for me, so a quick workout or a hike around the neighborhood often gets things running again.
If that fails, I'll jump online and start researching background I might need for another aspect of the story. That way I'm still getting work done while I wait for the cogs to start turning again.
