Usually it starts with late night insomnia. I start by writing a scene or two in my head as I'm trying to fall asleep. If it's entertaining enough, I grab my Kindle and jot down the details in the Notepad and email it to myself. Then I can spend the next few days refining and expanding on those notes.

I often see something on tv, in a book, or in daily life that just triggers a little "what if?" In this case, I saw the skyline of Denver one morning shrouded in fog and it looked kind of like smoke. Suddenly I wondered: "What if Denver was destroyed in some kind of disaster?" That question led to the whole storyline of "Into Shadow" and "Into Light."

I'm currently working on "Into Light," the sequel to "Into Shadow." I also have two others waiting in the wings: "Catbird Seat: Crime-solving Cat Mysteries #1" and "Overachiever" about an everyday mom trying to be a supermom... with less than successful results.
