My friend and I have similar personalities and we bounce weird ideas for a murder mystery off of each other all the time. One day he said that I needed to kill a midget and to come up with a bizarre way to do it. It put the idea in motion for Death is Long Overdue. Clearly, library people have weird ways to pass their lunch hours!

When I have writer's block, I come up with a couple of different ideas for my novel and then I call my friend who reads each chapter as I write it and gives me honest feedback. It helps to have her say "your character wouldn't do that" or "that idea can go really well or it might be a complete train wreck!"
