Roxane Orgill Never had it. There are too many things that interest me. But I do get blocked, in a way, after I've done a ton of research into a subject and I don't know how to write about it, what sort of book to write, for what age, and what form to use. I surprised myself with my book JAZZ DAY because suddenly I found myself writing verse for the first time. Moleskin notebooks are my tool for getting over that "block" if it is a block. Not the computer, I don't use that until I have some idea where I am going.
Roxane Orgill For my forthcoming book SIEGE, a verse novel about the start of the American Revolution, I got the idea from visiting battlefields with my husband and son over the course of several years. Monmouth and Princeton Battlefields, the site of the Crossing of the Delaware, Brandywine. I'd never been interested in them or in war, but something about being on site made me intensely curious. How do you start a war? And why? SIEGE is the result of my first exploration into those issues.
