I use these opportunities to read other authors works especially on topics near my work in progress (WIP). Many times this gives me new ideas to explore in my writing as well as more depth for the story.
Ernest Hemingway suggested not writing till "your tank was dry". Another words, not to write out to the end of everything you had thought through. He suggested stopping at a point where you know where you are going with the story the next day. By spending 12-24 hours walking around with the next phases of the story in your head, you are more apt to think forward into the story before you return to writing.

Keep reading. Keep writing. I look back at some of my writing from 10 years ago and cringe, but I can see a pattern of development and improvement over the years of continuing to write. None of us were very talented when we first began to ride a bicycle. We became more proficient the more we rode one. The same can be said for writing - keep writing!
