Nadezhda Chobanova The idea started with the image and personality of Lorig which I based on a real friend of mine. Everyone agreed that he was a noble and just person but some said he was harsh and cold, while others said he was kind and tender. Something about this apparent contradiction within one person, inspired me to start writing about the balance between good and evil.
Nadezhda Chobanova I have been reading since I was 4 when I read 'Captain Blood', my first real book. In those days in Bulgaria there wasn't much on TV and we only got local or Russian movies. Books offered the best access to a wider, more colorful and interesting world.
The more you read, the more you get the urge to create something of your own and speak with your own voice.
Nadezhda Chobanova I'm working on several things right now. I'm writing Book 7 of the The Last Yo'rae series and am working with my editor to translate Book 2 into English - so that will be ready soon!
I'm also reading a lot and taking notes for my next series of novels about the Second Punic War.
Nadezhda Chobanova Very simple - read and write!!!
Read as much as you can, whenever you can, anything and everything - just read! TV might give you ideas but it doesn't give you the richness of language you need to describe images vividly.
Write at least one page every day. It doesn't matter how long it takes to do it - just fill a page. After a week, you'll have seven pages - and soon they'll mount up. Also, the more you write, the more easily the words start coming and the writing begins to flow.
Nadezhda Chobanova You can create your own world where things happen the way you would like to see them happen. Of course, it depends on the author, but to me, in my books justice is always served ... something rarely seen in this world!
Nadezhda Chobanova Whenever I have a block I read as many other books as possible - the more the better! Usually I get blocked when I can't find the words to say what I want - I always have the ideas - but reading someone else helps me to find a way to express them. When you are surrounded by lots of different voices, it becomes easier to find your own.
