I'm looking for the next novel. Ideas are mixed up in my brain, but until one of them sticks and stays with me for a long time, I'm not sure what will come next.

When things are flowing, it's the best high ever. Your characters are talking to you, the story opens up and surprises you. But when it's blocked you feel empty and wonder why you ever thought of yourself as a writer. I'm hoping that my third novel is somewhere in my brain waiting to be born.

Badly.Sometimes waking up at 3am will give me new ideas, but that only works if I immediately write them down on a pad. Problem is, I often cannot read my writing the next morning.

Do as I say, not as I do. Which means, discipline yourself to write everyday, even if it's just a short piece. Keep the writing muscle going. Now if I could only follow my own advice.

I wish I had consistent inspiration. Mainly it's hard work when I'm writing and praying for that inspiration when I'm not.

"Sown in Tears" was inspired by something my father described as a child in hard times in Russia. I had this image of my grandmother protecting her youngest child which stayed with me over a long period of time. The book is not about my grandmother but does concern troubles in Russia and the strength of one determined young mother.
