Perry Martin I actually did use a personal mystery as the basis for the plot of my second novel, "Savannah". As a child, I used to have a recurring nightmare. It went away as I grew and then, inexplicably came back in my mid-twenties. With the help of some psychotherapy I was able to uncover the source of the nightmare and have not been troubled by it since. years later, when I began my "late in life" writing career, I decided to use my own personal experiences as a musician, coupled with the recurring nightmare, to bring a sense of realism to that particular novel.
Perry Martin The overall idea for my third novel literally came to me in the middle of the night, while I was still working on my second novel. What lies at the heart of it is that almost everybody has had life experiences they wish they could re-experience or change the outcome of.
Perry Martin I always keep my ultimate goal in mind; to be a multi-million copy bestselling author.
Perry Martin I am rewriting my first novel because my writing has improved by leaps and bounds over the last few years. (Not that the first edition was badly written particularly; but I have learned to say more with less words and have embraced the concept of "show don't tell"). I am also outlining a sequel to my first novel.
Perry Martin Read a lot. Write a lot. Always seek to improve your craft. Don't pay attention to negative reviews (well-intended, goodhearted constructive criticism is the exception - - but even then, stay true to yourself; they aren't necessarily right). Never give up.
Perry Martin Knowing that you've affected the reader emotionally, made then think and most importantly - - entertained them..
Perry Martin I'm rarely troubled by writer's block. If it does happen,I just keep writing; even if what I'm writing is absolute garbage. That seems to get me through it.
