I don't normally think of what I do as "romance" but I have been told some folks think some of my work is so feel free to ask me a question.” TammyJo Eckhart

We connected and I reviewed that book, too!

Odds are that you will never make your living as an author unless you are willing to write to the market and to write in every possible market you can find. Do it only if you can afford the time it takes to write and if characters and their stories haunt your mind.

Two ways work for me.
First, an idea just comes to me, generally in my dreams. Sometimes it is a reflection of what is going on in my life but not always.
Second, I see a call-out for a magazine or anthology asking for X type of story. I think about it for a while and generally an idea just pops into my head. Again it often haunts my dreams until I write it out.

I don't do ebook reviews. Ebooks simply cannot compete for my time compared to the "to be reviewed" shelf in my office.

Because I'm always getting books to review I don't usually have time for a reading list of my own. I do have books I want to read but I have to find the time.

What happened to my mother to cause her mental health issues? She's dead now so that will never be solved but her issues became our issues in the family and resulted in childhood abuse that still affects me today.
On a less serious note, there was a summer when I was a child that roaming packs of abandoned dogs (about 5-6 of them) were attacking people throughout small town. Then after a couple of months the attacks just stopped. But I don't recall any police action so what happened?

I love Jane and Silver from the "Silver Metal Lover" by Tanith Lee. It was rare and still is rare to show a realistic woman who learns to love herself and empower herself not because of a man's love but with the aid of a man's love.

"Beyond the Softness of His Fur" trilogy grew out of learning that my partner identities as a furry. I wanted to learn more, so I did research, I talked to folks, and we did some non-sexual roleplaying to help me get a feeling for that that meant to him. Then it all went through my strange brain, my background as a historian, and my love of social science fiction and it grew into the complex world and relationships you find in the books.

I don't really get writer's block because for many, many years I've practiced notetaking whenever I get a new idea. If, for some reason, I'm struggling to finish a project I have numerous other projects to tackle until the mood comes back to return to the original. Computers are a lifesaver in this regard for me but when I was much younger I just kept notebooks of stories in various stages of development.
I also find that re-reading and editing is often all I need to do to get back on track if I have a deadline to keep in mind.

I'm currently working on book two of my next series. This one is also science fiction but in a very different world and time than BSHF. I see this as a 10+ book series, too, with plenty of time to look at how societies maintain themselves through the eyes of our main characters and they think they are fighting to change things.
