April Seymour is a North American poet and multi-genre novelist native to upstate New York. She writes a broad range of stories with psychological underpinnings—whether dark, speculative, humorous, or romantic—and diverse characters in morally subjective situations. When she is not writing she can be found reading and supporting other authors, watching The Walking Dead, and hanging out with the coolest people on Earth. She is grateful for her readers and enjoys connecting with other book lovers and making new book friends. You can follow her on TikTok: @april.seymour and Instagram: aprilseymour_ and sign up for her email list on her website.

If you're anxious or procrastinating, the best suggestion I have is to sit down and force yourself to write anything, starting with simple exercises. For example, find an object that interests you and write a description of it. Write a character description. Write about your character interacting with the object. Other things that might spark creativity are changing the location where you're writing, listening to or viewing something stimulating, and outlining the story.(less)

Rating Books

I thought I’d share an explanation of how I rate novels and poetry for anyone who is curious or follows my ratings/reviews.

POETRY:
What I seek in all poetry I read is emotion, the author’s journey, their story. If I get what I’m looking for, it’s a five-star rating. I don’t put much emphasis on structure or syntax. I typically don’t rate poetry anything other than five stars because it’s all worthw Read more of this blog post »

"Loved this one! Definitely my favorite of Seymour’s novels! This was only my second time reading a psychological thriller and I feel like it encapsulated that genre so well. I loved that the author used two different POV’s for each character. It fit " Read more of this review »

"I really like this book. I like the suspense and it had me on edge. I also really liked that the main character was gay/lesbian."

"Finished this just now and I. Have. THOUGHTS.

A psychological thriller, “The Gatekeeper” had twists and turns galore. I was so certain I knew where it was going, thought I knew the whodunit of it all, but I didn’t. This book was a wild ride and yes, t" Read more of this review »

“But there’s nothing wrong with knowing what you want in a partner and striving for it. Life’s too short. You’ve got to be honest with yourself about the sort of life you want, the sort of person you’d like to spend it with. As long as you’re kind to the people around you, which you are, you should be true to yourself.”
