You nailed it Sara... I couldn't think how to qualify the Mr. Mira crush but you are exactly right!! It makes sense since Dr. Mira is Eve's mother figure.

message 55: by Karon (new)

Karon You know how Eve hates to use Roarke's name to get something done? I think she rarely uses it...but I just came across a part in Remember When where she used his name to get them reservations at an italian restaurant that was completely booked. It was definitely a jaw dropper....she stooped to THAT level....lol

message 56: by Elizabeth (new)

Elizabeth yes sara thank you for understanding haha. i was hesitant to say crush, so i changed it to crushthing. i figured if anyone would understand you guys would.

message 57: by Karon (new)

Karon Here's a funny down memory lane for you! In Remember When...Roarke, Feeney & Eve were at her home office working on the case and they all needed a break. Feeney went for a swim and Roarke wanted to partake in "adult recreation." Upon Eve's protests that Feeney was still in the house (somewhere), Roarke says something like "I bet Feeney gets naked with Mrs. Feeney and that's how they got the little Feeneys!"

message 58: by Sara ♥ (last edited Apr 20, 2011 08:15AM) (new)

Sara ♥ Oh yeah! They were going to take an hour break, and Eve was also like, "Feeney's going to know!" and then when he DOES beat them back, and DOES realize what they were doing.... AWKWARD! ;)

message 59: by Elizabeth (new)

Elizabeth oh! good times! feenys all red and clearing his throat..poor Eve! but lol SO amusing.

message 60: by Karon (new)

Karon Oh yeah...he KNEW as soon as he saw them. And then Eve is reminded the next morning how uncomfortable that was when she is interviewing someone (won't say who!) and she asked what the guy was doing after they got home and he said they went to bed but it was written all over his face that he did more than sleep LOL!

message 61: by Elizabeth (new)

Elizabeth haha! and she was like..."uh. yea. understandable. ahem." lol

message 62: by Vanessa (new)

Vanessa It was just discussed in another thread how Eve could kick some ass. Remember when she hit Peabody in her shoulder after her injury? She's a tough cookie. I think Peabody said, "Now, that's just low, even for you," or something like that.

message 63: by Sara ♥ (new)

Sara ♥ Vanessa wrote: "It was just discussed in another thread how Eve could kick some ass.

Specifically, my ass. I'm not anywhere near as tough as Peabody!

message 64: by Vanessa (new)

Vanessa Me too Sara!!

message 65: by Elizabeth (new)

Elizabeth Ha! So so so same

message 66: by Karon (new)

Karon OK....I just got introduced to Magdalena (Maggie) in Innocent yesterday. Is it just me or do you all get just as jealous as Eve when one of Roarke's past lovers is introduced? I already want to "pop" her!

message 67: by Sara ♥ (new)

Sara ♥ I get MORE jealous, personally...

message 68: by Dee (new)

Dee Sauter Karon wrote: "OK....I just got introduced to Magdalena (Maggie) in Innocent yesterday. Is it just me or do you all get just as jealous as Eve when one of Roarke's past lovers is introduced? I already want to "..."

I am listening to Innocent in Death as we speak. Maggie didn't make me jealous. She pissed me off big time. I wanted to smack her silly, for having the audacity to try to cause problems in there marriage. What a bitch.

Of course, Roarke is such a man!

message 69: by Dee (last edited Jul 03, 2011 01:45AM) (new)

Dee Sauter Just at the end of Innocent and I love how Roarke told Magdalena to get out of the states within 3 hours. Then I love how Eve got a little bit of her own and knocked her out. I wasn't too crazy how she slugged Roarke

message 70: by Sara ♥ (new)

Sara ♥ I DID like that she slugged Roarke. He shouldn't have let her in the house, and he should have figured she'd try to pull something like she did...

Dee Sauter Sara ♥ wrote: "I DID like that she slugged Roarke. He shouldn't have let her in the house, and he should have figured she'd try to pull something like she did..."

I never thought of the that. Thanks

message 72: by Karon (new)

Karon Roarke deserved to be sucker-punched.

(view spoiler)

Karon Dee wrote: "Just at the end of Innocent and I love how Roarke told Magdalena to get out of the states within 3 hours. "

Oh I liked that too...she acted like he didn't own the world, but seems to forget (you KNOW she KNOWS) that he owns half of it!

message 74: by Vanessa (last edited Jul 07, 2011 09:51PM) (new)

Vanessa The Roarke punch was a little unexpected but so appropriate once I thought about it. He can be just a man after all. And Eve can pack quite a wallop. Don't forget all the times they beat up on each other throughout the series. Or, I guess it's more like tousling, but interesting either way.

message 75: by Vanessa (new)

Vanessa Have you noticed how Eve is a master at getting a confession? I would say it's a little unrealistic, but I have to also point out that she's really good at it and does it in a logical manner. It makes sense to me most of the time.

message 76: by Elizabeth (new)

Elizabeth Do you mean getting a confession IN our OUT of the interrogation room?

message 77: by Vanessa (new)

Vanessa I was thinking of IN when I wrote the comment.

message 78: by Elizabeth (new)

Elizabeth Oh! Well then I think that a good cope should get a confession every time they get into the interrogation room! If she didn't get as many confessions as she does then she wouldn't be as high up on on the ladder as she is. She mostly likely didn't always get the high amount of confessions that she does now, but she has so much practice that she is now a boss at it!

message 79: by Dee (last edited Aug 26, 2011 03:30PM) (new)

Dee Sauter I worked in a police department and a lot of interrogations work very similarly. Of course, Robb is taking some creative license, but it is so much better than some idiot author having the cop stating "you had blood on you or you were holding the murder weapon, therefore you did it!" when there is overwhelming evidence to the contrary.

message 80: by Vanessa (new)

Vanessa Dee wrote: "I worked in a police department and a lot of interrogations work very similarly. Of course, Robb is taking some creative license, but it is so much better than some idiot author having the cop sta..."

I hate cases where the person is just tricked into making a confession through almost torturous interrogation techniques. I've heard of it happening.

In most of the books, Eve has the right person, although she's made a mistake in a few instances. I can think of Glory in Death as one example.

message 81: by Dee (new)

Dee Sauter I got to thinking about her interrogations and no one would ever, at least to my knowledge would ridicule the suspect into confessing. I expect the confessions would get thrown out if they went before any court. What really irritates me is the way Robb is painting the high powered lawyers. Eve comes in ridiculing the suspect and the lawyer says, "this is not acceptable." (see Born in Death). Give me a break, I don't know much about lawyers, but that just seems pathetically weak.

Another thing is when she is constantly throwing out if you call for a lawyer there won't be any break. I realize that happens all the time. For instance, in Memory in Death a street wise woman is going to believe the cops. The first thing convicts learn is not too open their mouths because cops lie.

Dee Sauter Elizabeth wrote: "Dee wrote: "I got to thinking about her interrogations and no one would ever, at least to my knowledge would ridicule the suspect into confessing. I expect the confessions would get thrown out if t..."

Vanessa had written that she hated when confessions were tricked into happening. I started to say, and I didn't, that that is what actual police do, but then I got to thinking like in Born in Death when Eve comes in and starts ridiculing Winfield Chase and pushing him to confess. Not absolutely positive but I do not think a police officer is allowed to do that. does that answer your question?

message 84: by Elizabeth (new)

Elizabeth yes it does! :) thanks

Kim I just got done with that book and I feel that that is one of my favorite books, it made my blood boil, wanted to go after her myself, smelled trouble the minute they started describing it.

Dee Sauter Did anyone see Dr. Phil yesterday? They had a 19 year old girl on that was treated just like Eve was with her father. He raped her from the time she was 3 till she was 11. The only difference was she was also passed to his drug dealer friends. Something interesting I never thought about was because she was penetrated so young she will never be able to have kids.

message 92: by Cher (new)

Cher How awful and I'm glad I missed the show. But the part about not being able to have kids is what my mind went to when reading about Lt. Eve, as that would have been an out for JDRobb to be able to continue the series without kids entering the plot line.

message 93: by Elizabeth (new)

Elizabeth That makes a lot of sense! I always wondered how Eve and Roarke could have THAT much sex without any pregnancy scares...i guess in 2060 there is some super birth control. But still, I always thought about it.

message 94: by Cher (new)

Cher I think she was checked out as an adult and was good to go. I remember (in what book I have no idea), that Eve mentioned birth control once. I think she was talking to her fav shrink in a session early on in her's and Roarke's relationship. I haven't looked anything up in the indeathwiki in forever and it can be a pain with my laptop. So if someone wants to check??

message 95: by Dee (new)

Dee Sauter It is also possible with the advancement of medical sciene that in 48 years Eve could very easily be able to get pregnant.

message 96: by Dee (new)

Dee Sauter Is there any reason why several people like Roarke doesn't have a last name, and why women are not carrying their husbands name. I may be old fashioned or maybe just old but I like having my husbands name.

message 97: by Elizabeth (new)

Elizabeth I think it's mysterious that he doesn't have a last name. BUT i think it's odd Eve doesn't ever wonder...and Eve IS Eve Dallas. If she was Eve McGowen or something like that I mean......it just wouldn't be the same.

message 98: by Cher (new)

Cher The younger generation so it seems feels that their career is wrapped around their name not their husband's. In Europe it is now the norm for a woman to not take a husband's name, which causes all sorts of complications for future geneaolgy research, but its been advised for tax or credit purposes as well, people are advising woman to not take their husband's name as you will pick up his credit scores.

message 99: by Elizabeth (new)

Elizabeth oh! cool beans!

message 100: by Sara ♥ (new)

Sara ♥ Roarke IS his last name. After all, Patrick Roarke is his father. He doesn't have a GIVEN name...

As for taking your hubby's last name... I did it, too, and I'm only 28. I have to say, though... It's a PAIN IN THE BUTT! I think for Eve, she's worked really hard to give meaning to the name she was given, and to give that name up would be a REALLY REALLY big deal. Plus, with Roarke being so famous, I think she wants to have an identity that isn't defined by the fact that she married him, you know?

I could see the same kind of thing applying to Mavis (although does Leonardo have a last name anyway?) who is famous in her own right, or Louise, who has established a "name" for herself as a doctor...

As for others, *shrugs*... But I think it makes sense for Eve, Mavis, and Louise to keep their names. Not everyone in the series does, but it seems like it's always the older women who have the same last name as their hubbies.

As for future genealogical issues... I don't think it'll be that big a deal, since we keep a LOT better records than they used to. Plus, when you keep genealogy records, you always list a woman by her maiden name, so if anything, it ALMOST makes it a bit easier...
