Barb and I had been planning to go up to the Harrisonburg area over Memorial Day weekend to visit family. However, that plan fell through at the last minute, though we hope to go up for a short visit in July (and again in early August). So I'll be around for the rest of this month. But from June 15 until July 6, I'll be offline much more than online --we're expecting family from Australia to be here then, and I want to spend as much time with them as possible.

Thanks for the update on the flagged reviews -- glad it got worked out so quickly! It turns out my sister has a copy of the book on Blurb, so she is sending it to me. (It wasn't available anywhere else since it was self-published by a family member who passed last year.)
This month, I'd already expected not to be online much after June 14 (and on through July 6). But another glitch has now been thrown into the works. :-( This past Saturday, I installed a new home computer, with Windows 11 and (supposedly) a wi-fi capability; but its ability to link to the internet has been sporadic, and nonexistent since Sunday morning, so I've been unable to post much from home. (Right now, I'm at work, on lunch break.) I'm hoping this situation can be remedied soon.

I hate problems with our technology too. I had similar problems with my laptop too earlier this year, and I ended up needing to install new hardware to fix my problem. Ugh. My sympathies.
You have my sympathies too Werner! I always seems ironic that technological "improvements" always take so long to sort out. I hope yours improves soon, so that you can spent time with your family without a niggling worry.
Thanks, Laura and Jean! Our Internet service provider is going to send a technician to our place on Friday morning to diagnose the problem. We're hoping that he/she can correct it, or at least tell us what we need to do to have it corrected.
Yay! Long story short, we now have Internet access with the new computer. The wi-fi function actually works all right now that we have the "antennas" (which came in the box) attached. (I didn't know what they were, and the unit didn't come with any instructions, so I had no idea that they played any role in Internet access.) The computer tech who was going to install an ethernet cable under the floor figured out the problem first, and so saved us a bundle. So, all's well that ends well! :-)

Yesterday, I hacked my bloated to-read shelf total (which I try to keep under 400) down to 380 books, by deleting all those that seemed intriguing years ago, but which by now I realize that I'm not really very invested in reading. (That was accompanied in some cases by a similar culling of my also bloated physical TBR piles; but luckily, I work for a library, so it's easy to make donations!)On the other hand, I also have a LOT of books on my "maybe" shelf, some of which deserve promotion to the next level; and there are some more I've seen, on Goodreads or on the BU library shelves, that I know I'd like to read. So over the next day or two, I expect to have some fun filling out the to-read shelf again. :-) It's an endless process; but then, who would ever want his/her to-read shelf to be completely empty?
Hello,Werner. I like reading about how others handle all the books they want to read. Yours is especially fun because of all the work you put into moving books carefully around. I do that also. Order on my bookshelves is very important to me.
It is the books I shall read again that throw everything into chaos. I can’t bear to leave my greatest reads behind. I am forever looking to reading them again!
Lee, nowadays I don't reread books as often as I used to when I was a kid; but nonetheless, I still have 78 books on my "to reread" shelf!
19 boxes of books! Still not sure if that qualifies for an actual library (which is determined as 1,000), but it's what my friend packed up in prepping for move. I gave away another 5 boxes, I think.
When moved a few years ago, I sent two boxes (Media Mail rate) of books. If my TBR'ed ebooks/audios were print editions, then maybe 5 or 6 boxes?
Reading another ebook now, and it's a bit disappointing again. My 20 boxes of books made it safely, but not onto shelves yet.Another trip tomorrow to catch a plane to attend my son's wedding. Today I just got my computer set up and connected... it was a bit of an ordeal, but so glad to have it back. I look forward to connecting with you all much more when I return. It's been a difficult last few months, but the worst is behind me. Now I'll be experiencing my first winter in 21 years. Wish me luck, lol!
My mother has been diagnosed at 87 with carpal tunnel on both sides. Left is far worse than right, she has very little use there. Doctor scheduled left surgery in a couple of weeks, though stressed it might not return function to near-normal. Any of you gone this situation?
Hi John, sorry to hear about your mom. I did have carpal tunnel in my right wrist some years ago -- was fortunate to have it resolve on its own, although I did wear a wristband for a few months, too.
John, I don't have any experience with carpal tunnel syndrome myself, but my thoughts and prayers are with your mother.
Although I'll be online tomorrow morning, because of the Thanksgiving holiday here in the U.S. and because of family coming in, I'll be offline after that until around mid-day on Saturday. Best wishes for a wonderful and gratitude-filled Thanksgiving to all those who celebrate it!
Happy Holidays to all! Following up that the carpal tunnel outpatient surgery went well. We'll know more at next week's post-op visit.
Hope all have had a good holiday weekend (and thanks for all the Thanksgiving wishes)! Headed home in 2 more days! I'm "traveled" out -- 12 states in 8 months by cars, planes and even a bus ride!
Happy reading! Looking forward to a winter full of books! Stopping at a Little Free Library at bottom of street before I head home.
